Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore in IPO to Fuel Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics targets ₹940 crore through an IPO to boost manufacturing and reduce promoter stakes, appealing to high-risk investors.
Molbio Diagnostics is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aiming to raise ₹940 crore. The molecular diagnostics firm, renowned for its tuberculosis test kits, plans to secure ₹200 crore through new share issuance to bolster its capital expenditure. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Sources
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics operates six manufacturing sites across India and serves clients in over 90 countries, including government health programs and international healthcare organizations. The company's 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system, caters to resource-limited settings by providing rapid and accurate test results. Its portfolio includes over 30 disease tests offered through 43 diagnostic assays.
The company reports that nearly 74% of its revenue comes from the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis diagnostics accounting for 70% of these sales. Government and international aid agencies contribute over 80% of Molbio's total revenue, indicating a significant reliance on these sectors.
Financial Performance and Market Valuation
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations rose by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit increased by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company’s EBITDA climbed 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with margins improving slightly from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. On a year-to-year basis, FY26 saw revenue jump by 41.7%, EBITDA by 27.9%, and net profit by 18.4%.
Post-IPO, the company is targeting a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. This valuation aligns with other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
Investor Considerations
Molbio Diagnostics presents a compelling opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth potential. The significant revenue growth, strategic global presence, and the expansion of its diagnostic offerings position it competitively within the healthcare sector. However, the company’s dependence on a concentrated customer base and government contracts could pose risks that investors must consider.
