Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore in IPO for Strategic Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore via IPO to boost capital and reduce promoter stake, targeting high-risk investors.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leading player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aiming to raise ₹940 crore. The funds will be split between a fresh issue of ₹200 crore for capital expenditures and a ₹740 crore offer for sale, which will result in reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Strategic Expansion and Revenue Growth
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has steadily expanded its footprint, operating six manufacturing facilities in India and serving clients in over 90 countries. The company's innovative 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system, has been pivotal in its growth, providing rapid test results in under an hour for resource-limited settings. Currently, Molbio offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays.
The company’s financial performance has been robust, with revenues climbing 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. Net profit saw a 40.2% increase, reaching ₹164.1 crore during the same period. The EBITDA margin improved slightly from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26, indicating stable operational efficiency.
Market Position and Investor Appeal
The IPO comes at a time when Molbio's tuberculosis diagnostic test kits are driving significant revenue, with nearly 74% of its income derived from test kit sales, 70% of which are tuberculosis-related. The company's clientele includes government health programs and international healthcare organizations, with top clients contributing more than half of its revenue.
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation, demanding a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, aligns with other healthcare diagnostics firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, whose P/E ratios range between 54 and 81.
High-Risk Opportunity for Investors
Molbio's IPO presents a potentially lucrative opportunity for investors with a high-risk appetite, given its strong market position and growth trajectory. However, the concentration of revenue from a limited number of clients poses a risk, making the investment suitable for those willing to navigate potential volatility.
As Molbio continues to innovate and expand its diagnostic solutions, the company is poised to maintain its growth momentum. The IPO proceeds are expected to bolster its operational capabilities and support further market expansion.
