AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore through IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake. The company targets high-risk investors.

Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aiming to raise a total of ₹940 crore. The company plans to utilize ₹200 crore from the fresh issue to bolster its capital expenditures, while an offer for sale seeks to generate ₹740 crore, resulting in a reduction of the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Reach and Revenue Drivers

Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics operates six manufacturing facilities across India and serves over 90 countries. Its customer base includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue stems from the sale of tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, with these kits accounting for 70% of its sales.

The company's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is designed to provide rapid and accurate diagnostic results in resource-limited settings. This portable system supports molecular testing for more than 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Additionally, Molbio offers radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through various subsidiaries and strategic partnerships.

Financial Performance and Market Valuation

Molbio has reported robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During this period, net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.

In FY26 alone, Molbio's revenue witnessed a year-on-year jump of 41.7%, while EBITDA and net profit grew by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively. The IPO pricing seeks a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, placing it within the range of other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.

Investor Considerations

With a significant portion of its revenue reliant on government and international aid agencies, Molbio presents an attractive opportunity for investors with a high-risk tolerance seeking long-term growth. The IPO is expected to provide the company with the necessary capital to expand its operations and diversify its product offerings further. However, potential investors should consider the risks associated with customer concentration and the competitive landscape in the diagnostics industry.
