Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore from IPO Amid Growth Surge

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore via IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake. Revenue from TB test kits drives substantial growth.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is set to raise ₹940 crore through its initial public offering (IPO). This capital infusion will be split between a fresh issue of ₹200 crore for capital expenditure and ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
The company, which has been operational since 2000, operates six manufacturing facilities across India and serves a global clientele in over 90 countries. Its product range, particularly the tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, has been a significant revenue driver, accounting for 70% of the test kits sold. The 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system, offers rapid test results, making it invaluable in resource-limited settings.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio's financials reflect robust growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. Net profit rose by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore over the same period. The company's EBITDA margin improved slightly from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26, with the EBITDA itself rising by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore.
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation is competitive. The company's price-earnings (P/E) multiple is expected to be up to 57, aligning with other healthcare diagnostics firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at multiples between 54 and 81.
Investment Risks and Opportunities
Molbio's reliance on government and international aid agencies, contributing over four-fifths of its revenue, indicates a high customer concentration risk. However, this dependence also underscores the company's strong foothold in institutional markets. High-risk investors may find the IPO appealing, given Molbio's strategic position in the booming diagnostics sector.
The company’s expansion plans, funded by the IPO, aim to enhance its capacity and technological capabilities, potentially driving future growth. By tapping into the rising demand for diagnostic solutions, Molbio is well-positioned to capitalize on its existing strengths and broaden its market reach.
