AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore through IPO to fund growth and reduce promoter stake. Revenue surges due to TB test kits.

Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in the molecular diagnostics sector, is launching an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹940 crore. The company plans to allocate ₹200 crore from the IPO for capital expenditures, while ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Reach and Product Portfolio

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics operates six manufacturing units in India, serving over 90 countries. The firm's diagnostic solutions target both infectious and non-communicable diseases, with a significant portion of its revenue stemming from tuberculosis diagnostic test kits. The Truenat platform, a portable diagnostic tool designed for resource-limited areas, offers rapid testing for more than 30 diseases through 43 different assays.

The company's clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations, with government and international aid agencies accounting for over 80% of its revenue. This customer concentration represents both a strength and a potential risk for the company.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Molbio has reported robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit rising by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA surged by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In the latest fiscal year, revenue jumped by 41.7%, while EBITDA and net profit grew by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively.

Despite not having a directly comparable listed peer in India, Molbio's valuation seeks a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. This places it within the range of other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade between P/E multiples of 54 and 81.

Investment Considerations

Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity for investors with a high-risk tolerance, given the company's strong revenue growth and strategic global expansion. However, the concentration of revenue from a few key clients and the competitive landscape in the healthcare diagnostics sector are factors to consider. The funds raised will support further capital investments, potentially driving long-term growth as the company continues to expand its market presence.
