Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹200 Crore Through IPO Amidst Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹200 crore via IPO for expansion, while reducing promoter stake to 43%.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to raise ₹200 crore through an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at enhancing its capital expenditures. The company is also looking to reduce the promoter stake from 46.6% to 43% by generating ₹740 crore through an offer for sale.
Expanding Global Reach and Product Offerings
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself with six manufacturing sites in India, serving over 90 countries. The company's growth is largely driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, contributing significantly to its revenue. Molbio’s client base includes government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company’s flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, enables rapid molecular testing in resource-limited settings, providing accurate results in under an hour.
The company offers molecular testing solutions for more than 30 diseases and has developed 43 diagnostic assays. Its product portfolio extends to radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions, supported by its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio Diagnostics has shown robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, and net profit rising by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with an EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. In FY26, the company reported a 41.7% increase in revenue, a 27.9% rise in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit.
Despite not having directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's P/E multiple of up to 57 places it alongside other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investment Considerations
With a strong emphasis on research and development and an expansive global footprint, Molbio Diagnostics presents a potential opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth. The company’s financial health, driven by its substantial revenue from tuberculosis test kits, positions it favorably in the diagnostics market.
However, potential investors should consider the customer concentration risk, as over half of the revenue is derived from top clients, and more than four-fifths of its revenue comes from government and international aid agencies.
