AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹200 crore in a new share issue to boost capital expenditures, alongside a ₹740 crore offer for sale.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics industry, is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹200 crore to bolster its capital expenditures. The company also intends to generate an additional ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Strategic Expansion with Global Reach

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a strong international presence, operating six manufacturing facilities across India and serving clients in more than 90 countries. The company's clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue, approximately 74%, is derived from the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis diagnostic kits accounting for 70% of those sales.

The company's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostic system designed for resource-constrained environments, providing accurate test results in less than an hour. This platform supports molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Additionally, Molbio offers radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.

Financial Performance and Valuation

Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profit rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, while operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore. The EBITDA margin improved slightly to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.

On a year-over-year basis in FY26, the company's revenue surged by 41.7%, EBITDA increased by 27.9%, and net profit grew by 18.4%. Molbio Diagnostics is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it among other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, and Metropolis Healthcare, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Investor Considerations

While Molbio Diagnostics does not have a directly comparable listed peer in India, its strong revenue growth and strategic global expansion make it an attractive option for investors with a high-risk appetite. The company's reliance on a concentrated customer base, with top clients contributing over half of its revenue, is a factor that potential investors should consider. The IPO offers an opportunity for long-term growth in a burgeoning industry, especially for those willing to navigate the associated risks.
