Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹200 Crore from IPO Amid Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks to raise ₹200 crore for expansion and reduce promoter stake via a ₹740 crore offer for sale.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics industry, is set to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares as part of its initial public offering (IPO). The company aims to bolster its capital expenditures while simultaneously reducing its promoter stake by generating ₹740 crore through an offer for sale. Following the IPO, the promoter group's stake will decrease from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Product Offerings
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a strong presence with six manufacturing sites across India, catering to over 90 countries. The company's product portfolio includes diagnostic solutions for a wide range of infectious and non-communicable diseases. Its flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostics system designed for resource-limited settings, providing accurate test results within an hour. Molbio offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays, complemented by radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions via its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.
The company derives a significant portion of its revenue from government and international aid agencies, accounting for over 80% of its earnings. Notably, 74% of Molbio's revenue comes from the sale of test kits, with diagnostic kits for tuberculosis alone contributing 70% to this segment.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit rising by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, the company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, and the EBITDA margin improved from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In FY26, on a year-on-year basis, revenue surged by 41.7%, while EBITDA and net profit grew by 27.9% and 18.4% respectively.
Molbio's valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, based on the post-IPO equity and net profit for FY26. While it lacks directly comparable listed peers in India, other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre exhibit P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investment Considerations
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an opportunity for potential long-term growth. The company's strong market presence, innovative product offerings, and robust financial performance position it well for future expansion. However, the concentration of revenue from a limited number of top clients and heavy reliance on tuberculosis test kits may pose risks.
As Molbio Diagnostics continues to expand its global footprint and invest in research and development, the IPO proceeds are expected to support its strategic initiatives and enhance its competitive edge in the molecular diagnostics sector.
