Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹200 Crore Capital Boost via IPO

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹200 crore for capital expansion and reduce promoter stake through its upcoming IPO.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares aimed at enhancing its capital expenditure. This initiative is part of a broader strategy that includes reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43% by generating ₹740 crore through an offer for sale. The company's IPO, which targets high-risk investors, promises an opportunity to tap into its growing market presence.
Expanding Global Reach
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a leading provider of diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India and distributes its products to over 90 countries. A significant portion of its revenue is derived from partnerships with government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company's diagnostic test kits, particularly for tuberculosis, account for 74% of its revenue.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio has reported robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit rising by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) also saw a 33.2% increase, reaching ₹328.2 crore. The EBITDA margin improved to 22.6% in FY26, up from 22% in FY24. Such financial indicators highlight the company's strong market position and potential for future growth.
Valuation and Investment Outlook
The IPO demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, which positions Molbio within the valuation range of other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81. Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in the country, Molbio's valuation reflects its solid financial performance and market potential.
Molbio's innovative 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system designed for resource-limited settings, further enhances its market appeal. The platform provides accurate test results within an hour and supports molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. This technological edge may attract investors looking for long-term growth opportunities in the diagnostics sector.
