AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake, targeting high-risk investors.

Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostic solutions, is gearing up to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) with the aim of raising ₹940 crore. The company plans to use ₹200 crore from the fresh issue of shares for capital expenditures, while ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale, reducing the promoter's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Reach and Product Focus

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a critical player in the diagnostics sector, operating six manufacturing sites across India. The company serves more than 90 countries, including partnerships with government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Molbio's revenue is heavily concentrated, with a significant portion coming from its top clients.

The company is renowned for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system that delivers accurate results within an hour, making it suitable for resource-limited settings. Molbio offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Tuberculosis test kits are a major product, accounting for 70% of the test kit sales, which in turn represent 74% of the company's total revenue.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit rising by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA also saw a 33.2% increase, reaching ₹328.2 crore, with an EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. In FY26 alone, revenue surged by 41.7%, EBITDA rose by 27.9%, and net profit grew by 18.4%.

In terms of valuation, Molbio is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, which is competitive when compared to other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, where P/E multiples range from 54 to 81.

Investment Outlook

Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an opportunity for high-risk investors looking for long-term growth prospects in the healthcare sector. The company's strong market presence, innovative product offerings, and financial growth trajectory suggest potential for continued expansion. However, the concentration of revenue from a few major clients and reliance on government and international aid agencies for over four-fifths of its revenue pose risks that investors should consider.
