Molbio Diagnostics Aims for Growth with ₹940 Crore IPO

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to expand operations and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aiming to raise ₹940 crore. The company plans to channel ₹200 crore from this IPO into capital expenditures, while the remaining ₹740 crore will come from an offer for sale, reducing the promoter stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expansion Plans and Market Reach
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a significant footprint in the diagnostics industry. With six manufacturing sites across India, the company caters to over 90 countries, serving government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare entities. A key product driving their growth is the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system designed for settings with limited resources, offering test results in under an hour. The platform supports molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays.
Financial Performance and Revenue Streams
The company has shown impressive financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit rising by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. Molbio's EBITDA also saw a substantial jump, reaching ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. The majority of Molbio's revenue, approximately 74%, is derived from the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis diagnostics accounting for 70% of this segment.
Investor Considerations and Market Valuation
Molbio's IPO comes with a proposed price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it among other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, whose P/E multiples range between 54 and 81. While the company lacks a directly comparable listed peer in India, its robust revenue growth and market presence make it a potential consideration for high-risk investors looking for long-term growth opportunities.
The company’s reliance on a concentrated customer base, with over half of its revenue coming from top clients, presents a risk factor. However, its strong ties with government and international aid agencies, which contribute over 80% of its revenue, provide a stable income stream.
Molbio Diagnostics’ IPO presents a strategic opportunity for investors willing to engage with the healthcare diagnostics sector, which is poised for expansion. The funds raised will support the company's growth ambitions and potentially enhance shareholder value in the long run.
