Molbio Diagnostics Aims for ₹940 Crore Through IPO for Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore via IPO, targeting ₹200 crore for expansion and reducing promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leading player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹940 crore. This move is aimed at enhancing the company's capital expenditures and reducing its promoter group's stake. The IPO will include a fresh issuance of shares worth ₹200 crore and an offer for sale amounting to ₹740 crore.
Expanding Global Reach and Reducing Promoter Stake
The company, which operates six manufacturing sites in India, plans to use the IPO proceeds to bolster its global operations. Molbio Diagnostics serves over 90 countries, including partnerships with government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The IPO will see the promoter group's stake decrease from 46.6% to 43%, aligning with the company's strategy to broaden its investor base.
Strong Revenue Growth and Truenat Platform
Founded in 2000, Molbio has made significant strides in the diagnostics field, particularly with its 'Truenat' platform. This portable diagnostics system provides accurate test results for more than 30 diseases, catering to resource-limited settings. The company's revenue has been largely driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of its test kit sales.
Financially, Molbio has shown robust growth. From FY24 to FY26, revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA margin improved to 22.6% in FY26, up from 22% in FY24.
Market Valuation and Investor Considerations
Following the IPO, Molbio Diagnostics is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it competitively within the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sector. While there are no directly comparable listed peers in India, similar companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre have P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity to invest in a company with a proven track record of innovation and growth in the diagnostics field. The reliance on a few major clients, who contribute over half of the revenue, may pose a risk, but the company's strategic initiatives and proven technology offer promising prospects for long-term growth.
