Molbio Diagnostics Aims for ₹200 Crore in IPO Amid Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹200 crore for capital expenses and promoter stake reduction in IPO, eyeing long-term growth.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, has announced plans to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh issuance of shares as part of its upcoming Initial Public Offering (IPO). Additionally, the company plans to reduce its promoter stake by generating ₹740 crore through an offer for sale. This move is expected to decrease the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach and Revenue Streams
The company, which operates six manufacturing sites globally, serves over 90 countries. Its products are widely used in government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Known for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system capable of delivering accurate results within an hour, Molbio has made significant strides in resource-limited settings.
Molbio's revenue has seen substantial growth, with 74% stemming from the sale of test kits, especially those for tuberculosis, which accounts for 70% of its test kit revenue. The company's operations revenue rose by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit increased by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The EBITDA margin also saw a slight increase, rising to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
Financial Outlook and Valuation
The financial metrics highlight a robust growth trajectory with a 41.7% year-on-year revenue increase in FY26. The company also reported a 27.9% rise in EBITDA and an 18.4% increase in net profit for the same period. The IPO is expected to attract high-risk investors seeking long-term growth opportunities, although the company demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. This valuation is in line with other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
Investment Considerations
Incorporated in 2000, Molbio has focused on developing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company's customer base is notably concentrated, with top clients contributing over half of its revenue. Nevertheless, its collaborations with government and international aid agencies, which account for over four-fifths of its revenue, provide a stable revenue stream.
Given these dynamics, Molbio Diagnostics presents a potentially lucrative opportunity for investors with a high-risk appetite, as it continues to expand its global footprint and enhance its product offerings.
