Molbio Diagnostics Aims ₹940 Crore from IPO for Growth and Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹200 crore for capital expenses and ₹740 crore via an offer for sale, reducing promoter stake to 43%.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is launching an initial public offering (IPO) to raise a total of ₹940 crore. The company intends to gather ₹200 crore through fresh issuance of shares to bolster its capital expenditures. Additionally, it plans to generate ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, which will decrease the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Strategic Expansion and Market Reach
The company operates six manufacturing facilities in India and has established a strong global footprint, serving customers in over 90 countries. Its clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue is driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which are part of its diverse portfolio.
Incorporated in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has focused on developing innovative diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. One of its notable innovations is the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system designed to deliver accurate results within an hour, particularly useful in resource-constrained settings. The company offers over 30 disease testing solutions through 43 diagnostic assays and collaborates strategically to provide additional radiology and digital pathology services.
Financial Performance and Growth Potential
Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, and net profit surging by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA also saw a rise of 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore during this period, with EBITDA margins improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. On a year-on-year basis in FY26, revenue grew by 41.7%, EBITDA by 27.9%, and net profit by 18.4%.
Molbio Diagnostics' valuation post-IPO is set at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it competitively against similar healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre. These peers have P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investment Considerations
Investors with a high-risk tolerance may find Molbio Diagnostics' IPO appealing for long-term growth. The company's strong financial performance, coupled with its innovative product offerings and expansive market reach, underscores its potential for sustained growth. However, the concentration of revenue from a few key clients and reliance on government and international aid agencies for over 80% of its income may pose risks that investors need to weigh carefully.
Overall, Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an opportunity for investors interested in the burgeoning healthcare diagnostics sector, with the promise of leveraging its strategic expansions and innovative solutions to drive future growth.
