Molbio Diagnostics' ₹940 Crore IPO Targets Growth Amidst Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stakes, aiming for growth in the global diagnostics market.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, has announced plans to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The company aims to enhance its capital expenditures with ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares. Concurrently, it seeks to generate ₹740 crore via an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Product Innovation
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a significant player in the diagnostics sector. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India and serves clients in over 90 countries. Its clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations.
Molbio's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostics system designed for resource-limited settings. It offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases, with a particular focus on tuberculosis. The platform provides accurate test results within an hour, catering to urgent diagnostic needs in various regions.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. The company's net profit rose by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore. EBITDA also saw a significant increase, growing 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with margins improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.
Despite its robust financial growth, Molbio faces challenges related to customer concentration, as major clients contribute more than half of its revenue. Additionally, over four-fifths of its income is derived from government and international aid agencies.
Investment Considerations
Molbio Diagnostics is offering its IPO at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning itself alongside other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India. While there are no directly comparable listed peers, companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investors with a high-risk appetite might consider this IPO a promising opportunity, given Molbio's strategic growth plans and expanding global footprint. The company's strong financial performance and innovative product offerings further bolster its appeal in the competitive diagnostics market.
