Medtronic Ups Fiscal 2027 Forecast Amid Heart Device Surge

Medtronic raises fiscal 2027 outlook, driven by strong demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 forecasts upward, citing robust demand for its cardiovascular devices. The company now expects annual organic revenue growth to range between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%. The lower end of its adjusted per-share profit forecast has also been raised from $5.90 to $5.94, while the upper end remains at $6.
Strategic Investments and Market Expansion
In a strategic move to bolster its cardiovascular portfolio, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing rights to distribute a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States.
CEO Geoff Martha emphasized the company's focus on high-growth segments within medtech, particularly those with large patient pools. Martha noted the significant potential for expansion in emerging markets, where the penetration of soft tissue robotic surgery remains below 1%.
Impressive Quarterly Performance
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was primarily driven by the company's pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% surge, reflecting the rising demand for advanced cardiac treatment solutions.
The company reported an adjusted quarterly per-share profit of $1.45 on revenue of $9.76 billion, surpassing analysts' expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Financial Maneuvers and Future Outlook
Medtronic's financial chief Thierry Pieton highlighted that the company received tariff refunds covering most duties paid during the quarter. However, these potential future refunds have not been factored into the current outlook.
Looking ahead, Medtronic remains confident in its diverse portfolio and the increasing contributions from its newer growth platforms, which are expected to sustain its positive momentum in the coming years.
