Medtronic raises 2027 revenue forecasts, driven by high demand for heart devices and strategic investments.

Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 financial projections upward, citing robust demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The company announced the update on Tuesday, reflecting confidence in its expanding product portfolio and strong quarterly performance.

Strong Financial Performance and Strategic Investments

Medtronic now anticipates annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previous forecast of 6.75% to 7.25%. The company also raised the lower end of its adjusted per share profit forecast for fiscal 2027 to $5.94, while maintaining the upper limit at $6. CEO Geoff Martha attributed the positive outlook to the broad performance across its business sectors and contributions from new growth platforms.

In addition to its revised forecasts, Medtronic disclosed significant investments, including $80 million in heart-valve repair device maker Pi-Cardia, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Furthermore, Medtronic invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select international markets.

Growth in Cardiovascular Segment

The cardiovascular segment of Medtronic saw a notable 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely propelled by its pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% surge. The company reported an adjusted quarterly per share profit of $1.45 on revenue of $9.76 billion, surpassing estimates of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, according to data compiled by LSEG.

Market Expansion and Future Prospects

Medtronic's CFO Thierry Pieton mentioned that tariff refunds nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter, although future refunds haven't been factored into the company's outlook. Martha emphasized Medtronic's strategic focus on medtech segments with high growth potential and large patient pools. He highlighted the complementary nature of Cornerstone's Sentire device to Medtronic's existing Hugo system, particularly in emerging markets where soft tissue robotic surgery penetration is currently below 1%.
