AI Summary

Medtronic anticipates robust growth in fiscal 2027, driven by high demand for heart devices and strategic investments.

Medtronic has revised its revenue and profit forecasts for fiscal 2027, attributing the optimistic outlook to a surge in demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. This announcement comes as the medical technology giant continues to capitalize on the increasing adoption of innovative medical solutions.

Strong Performance Across Business Segments

CEO Geoff Martha expressed confidence in the company's performance, highlighting the broad success across various business units and the significant contributions from new growth platforms. Medtronic has adjusted the lower end of its adjusted per-share profit forecast to $5.94, up from $5.90, while maintaining the upper limit at $6. The company now anticipates annual organic revenue growth to range between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previously projected 6.75% to 7.25%.

Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. A key driver of this growth was the pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% surge as it is increasingly used to treat irregular heart rhythms. The company reported an adjusted quarterly per-share profit of $1.45 on revenue of $9.76 billion, surpassing estimates of $1.39 on $9.55 billion in sales, according to data compiled by LSEG.

Strategic Investments and Market Expansion

In addition to its strong organic growth, Medtronic is enhancing its market position through strategic investments. The company has announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire the firm for $210 million. Furthermore, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select international markets.

Geoff Martha noted the potential for growth in the emerging markets, where the penetration of soft tissue robotic surgery remains below 1%. He emphasized that Cornerstone's Sentire device complements Medtronic’s existing Hugo robotic system. The company is focusing on expanding in high-growth segments with large patient populations, a strategy Martha believes will drive substantial future gains.

Medtronic's Chief Financial Officer, Thierry Pieton, mentioned that the company received tariff refunds covering nearly all duties paid during the quarter. However, these refunds have not been factored into future financial projections.
