Medtronic Raises Fiscal 2027 Forecasts Amid Heart Device Surge

Medtronic boosts fiscal 2027 outlook, driven by robust demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 revenue growth projections upward, citing a surge in demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The medical technology giant now anticipates annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%.
Strategic Investments and Growth Drivers
Alongside its optimistic forecast, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the U.S. These strategic moves align with Medtronic's focus on expanding in high-growth segments of the medtech industry. CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the potential of soft tissue robotic surgery in emerging markets, where penetration remains below 1%.
"We've maintained a steady cadence of mergers and acquisitions, prioritizing high-growth segments with substantial patient pools," Martha stated.
Financial Performance and Market Outlook
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely driven by an 88% increase in its pulsed field ablation portfolio, which is utilized in treating irregular heart rhythms.
The company reported an adjusted quarterly per share profit of $1.45 on revenues of $9.76 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, according to data from LSEG.
Medtronic also adjusted the lower end of its fiscal 2027 adjusted per share profit forecast to $5.94 from $5.90, while maintaining the upper end at $6. CFO Thierry Pieton noted that the company received tariff refunds covering nearly all duties paid during the quarter, though these are not factored into future forecasts.
Expanding Technological Adoption
The company is capitalizing on the increased adoption of advanced medical technologies and a robust demand for surgical procedures. "Our confidence stems not only from the strength of the quarter but also from the broad performance across our businesses and the increasing contributions from newer growth platforms," said Martha.
As Medtronic continues to pursue strategic investments and capitalize on technological advancements, the company appears well-positioned to enhance its market share and drive significant growth in the coming years.
