Medtronic Raises Fiscal 2027 Forecasts Amid Heart Device Surge

Medtronic boosts 2027 forecasts, driven by strong demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has increased its financial projections for fiscal 2027, spurred by heightened demand for its cardiovascular devices. The company anticipates annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an upward revision from its previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%.
Investment in Cardiac Innovations
In a strategic move, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device manufacturer, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the U.S.
CEO Geoff Martha expressed confidence in these investments, noting the potential for substantial growth in the soft tissue robotic surgery market, particularly in emerging regions where penetration is currently below 1%.
Strong Performance in Cardiovascular Segment
Medtronic reported a 19.5% increase in sales within its cardiovascular segment, reaching $3.93 billion. The surge was largely driven by an 88% growth in its pulsed field ablation portfolio, used for treating irregular heart rhythms.
The company's adjusted quarterly per share profit was $1.45 on a revenue of $9.76 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Financial Outlook and Strategic Priorities
Medtronic's updated fiscal 2027 adjusted per share profit forecast now ranges from $5.94 to $6.00. Despite receiving tariff refunds that offset duties paid during the quarter, the company has not included potential future refunds in its outlook.
Geoff Martha highlighted Medtronic's focus on high-growth segments within the medtech industry, emphasizing the importance of targeting large patient pools and significant market segments.
Overall, Medtronic's strategic investments and robust performance in its cardiovascular segment underscore its optimistic financial outlook for the coming years.
