Medtronic boosts fiscal 2027 forecasts, driven by strong heart device demand and strategic investments.

Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 financial forecasts, buoyed by robust demand for its heart devices, which are increasingly used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The medical technology giant announced an increased revenue outlook, now expecting annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an uptick from the previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%.

Strategic Investments and Market Expansion

In a strategic move to bolster its cardiovascular portfolio, Medtronic has committed $80 million to invest in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing rights to distribute a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States. This investment aligns with Medtronic's strategy to expand its presence in emerging markets where robotic surgery penetration remains below 1%.

CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the company's focus on high-growth segments within the medtech industry. "We've had a steady cadence of M&A, prioritizing segments with large patient pools and significant growth potential," Martha stated during a post-earnings call.

Financial Performance and Market Reaction

Medtronic's fiscal 2027 adjusted per share profit forecast has been revised, with the lower end increased to $5.94 from $5.90, while maintaining the upper limit at $6. The company's cardiovascular segment experienced a significant boost, with quarterly sales rising 19.5% to $3.93 billion, driven by its pulsed field ablation portfolio, which grew by 88%.

The company's financial chief, Thierry Pieton, noted that Medtronic received tariff refunds that nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter. However, future refunds have not been factored into the current outlook. During the recent quarter, Medtronic reported an adjusted quarterly per share profit of $1.45 on revenue of $9.76 billion, surpassing analyst estimates of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in revenue, according to LSEG data.

Future Outlook

As Medtronic continues to capitalize on the growing demand for advanced cardiovascular solutions, its strategic investments and focus on emerging markets are expected to drive sustained growth. The company's commitment to expanding its technological capabilities and market reach underscores its confidence in the long-term potential of the medical devices sector.
