Medtronic Raises Fiscal 2027 Forecasts Amid Heart Device Demand Surge

Medtronic ups fiscal 2027 growth forecasts, citing strong demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 financial forecasts upward, driven by robust demand for its cardiovascular devices. The company announced on Tuesday that it now anticipates an annual organic revenue growth of between 7.25% and 7.75%, up from the previously projected 6.75% to 7.25% range.
Strategic Investments in Cardiac Technology
In a strategic move, Medtronic has committed to an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a company specializing in heart-valve repair devices, with an option to purchase it for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States. CEO Geoff Martha emphasized the complementary nature of Cornerstone's Sentire device with Medtronic's Hugo system, highlighting its potential in emerging markets where soft tissue robotic surgery penetration remains below 1%.
Financial Performance and Market Confidence
Medtronic's confidence in its financial outlook is bolstered by a strong performance across its business segments and the contribution of newer growth platforms. The company's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely fueled by an 88% increase in its pulsed field ablation portfolio, which is utilized in treating irregular heart rhythms.
For the fiscal year 2027, Medtronic has adjusted its per-share profit forecast, raising the lower end to $5.94 from $5.90, while maintaining the upper limit at $6. The company also reported a quarterly adjusted per-share profit of $1.45, surpassing analysts' estimates of $1.39, on a revenue of $9.76 billion, compared to the expected $9.55 billion.
Focus on High-Growth Medical Technology Segments
Medtronic's leadership has reiterated its focus on high-growth segments within the medical technology sector. CEO Martha noted the importance of targeting large patient pools and significant market segments, ensuring that the company's investments align with its growth strategies.
Despite receiving tariff refunds that nearly offset duties paid during the quarter, Medtronic has not factored potential future refunds into its financial outlook. This cautious approach reflects the company's focus on sustainable growth through strategic investments and market expansion.
