Medtronic Raises Fiscal 2027 Forecast Amid Heart Device Surge

Medtronic ups fiscal 2027 projections, driven by demand for advanced heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 projections upwards, attributing the adjustment to increased demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The medical technology giant announced the revision on Tuesday, highlighting a robust performance across its business segments.
Strategic Investments Boost Growth
The company revealed plans to invest $80 million in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire it for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has committed $700 million to Cornerstone Robotics, securing rights to distribute a robotic surgical device in select international markets. CEO Geoff Martha emphasized the strategic focus on high-growth segments that serve large patient populations.
Financial Outlook and Market Performance
Medtronic raised the lower end of its fiscal 2027 adjusted per share profit forecast to $5.94, maintaining the upper limit at $6. The company now anticipates annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previous 6.75% to 7.25% forecast. CFO Thierry Pieton noted that recent tariff refunds nearly covered the duties paid during the quarter, though future refunds are not factored into the forecast.
Quarterly sales in Medtronic's cardiovascular segment surged by 19.5% to $3.93 billion, fueled by an 88% growth in its pulsed field ablation portfolio, used to treat irregular heart rhythms. The company reported an adjusted quarterly per share profit of $1.45 on revenues of $9.76 billion, exceeding analyst expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, according to LSEG data.
Market Expansion and Technological Advancements
Martha pointed out that the penetration of soft tissue robotic surgery in emerging markets is currently less than 1%. He described Cornerstone's Sentire system as complementary to Medtronic's existing Hugo device, indicating potential for growth in these markets. The company remains committed to a steady acquisition strategy, targeting promising high-growth areas within the medical technology sector.
