Medtronic Raises Fiscal 2027 Forecast Amid Heart Device Demand Surge

Medtronic boosts fiscal 2027 growth projections, driven by robust heart device demand and strategic investments.
Medtronic has increased its fiscal 2027 revenue and profit forecasts, attributing the optimistic outlook to a surge in demand for heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The company announced the upward revision on Tuesday, citing strong performance across its business segments and the introduction of new growth platforms.
Strategic Investments Fuel Growth
In a significant move, Medtronic has committed $80 million to heart-valve repair device maker Pi-Cardia, with a future option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, the company has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States. CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the complementary nature of Cornerstone's Sentire device to Medtronic's Hugo system, particularly in emerging markets where robotic surgery adoption is still below 1%.
Financial Outlook and Performance
Medtronic has raised the lower end of its fiscal 2027 adjusted per-share profit forecast from $5.90 to $5.94, maintaining the upper limit at $6. The company now anticipates annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the earlier projection of 6.75% to 7.25%. CFO Thierry Pieton mentioned that recent tariff refunds nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter, though future refunds are not factored into the current outlook.
Cardiovascular Segment Drives Revenue
The cardiovascular segment of Medtronic saw a notable 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely driven by an 88% surge in its pulsed field ablation portfolio, a technology used to address irregular heart rhythms. The company's quarterly results surpassed expectations, reporting an adjusted per-share profit of $1.45 on $9.76 billion in revenue, compared to estimates of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales.
Medtronic's strategic focus on high-growth segments within the medtech industry, coupled with its robust quarterly performance, underscores its confidence in the continued expansion of its market share and revenue potential.
