Medtronic Raises 2027 Revenue Forecast Amid Heart Device Surge

Medtronic ups 2027 revenue outlook, driven by strong demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 revenue projections upward, fueled by robust demand for its cardiovascular devices. The company is now anticipating annual organic revenue growth of 7.25% to 7.75%, an increase from the previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%. This adjustment is a response to the growing adoption of Medtronic's heart devices, which are essential in complex cardiovascular procedures.
Strategic Investments in Heart and Surgical Technologies
The company's strategic investments are playing a key role in its optimistic outlook. Medtronic has announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States. This move is expected to complement Medtronic's Hugo device, particularly in emerging markets where the penetration of soft tissue robotic surgery remains below 1%.
Financial Performance and Market Dynamics
Medtronic's financial results underscore the impact of these strategic moves. The company's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. A significant contributor to this growth was the pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% surge in sales. Overall, Medtronic posted an adjusted quarterly profit of $1.45 per share on $9.76 billion in revenue, surpassing analysts' expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in revenue, according to LSEG data.
CEO's Insights on Market Growth
CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the company's broad performance across various business segments as a key factor in its revised forecast. "What gives us confidence is not simply the strength of the quarter, but importantly, the breadth of performance across our businesses and the increasing contributions from newer growth platforms," Martha stated during a post-earnings call. He emphasized that Medtronic's focus is on high-growth segments with large patient pools, ensuring sustained market growth.
Medtronic's financial chief, Thierry Pieton, also noted that the company received tariff refunds that nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter. However, these refunds have not been factored into future outlooks, reflecting a cautious approach to forecasting.
These developments reflect Medtronic's strategic positioning in the medical technology sector, leveraging investments and market dynamics to strengthen its financial performance and growth projections.
