Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Surge in Heart Device Demand

Medtronic boosts 2027 revenue and profit forecasts, driven by strong demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has increased its fiscal 2027 revenue and profit projections, citing a rising demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The medical technology giant now anticipates an annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, up from its previous forecast of 6.75% to 7.25%. Additionally, the company has raised the lower end of its adjusted per-share profit outlook from $5.90 to $5.94, while maintaining the upper limit at $6.
Strategic Investments Bolster Growth
Alongside its financial forecasts, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in heart-valve repair device maker Pi-Cardia, with an option to purchase the company for $210 million. Furthermore, it has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States. CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the potential of Cornerstone's Sentire device to complement Medtronic's existing Hugo device, noting the underpenetrated market for soft tissue robotic surgery in emerging regions.
Robust Performance Across Segments
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment experienced a significant sales increase of 19.5%, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely driven by its pulsed field ablation portfolio, which saw an 88% surge, reflecting the strong market demand. The company reported an adjusted quarterly per-share profit of $1.45 on revenue of $9.76 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in revenue, according to LSEG data.
Medtronic's CFO Thierry Pieton mentioned that the company received tariff refunds that nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter, though these are not factored into future projections. The strategic focus on high-growth segments with large patient pools is a key driver of Medtronic's optimism for future expansion.
CEO Geoff Martha emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and expansion in high-growth areas of medical technology, stating, "We've had a steady cadence of M&A... prioritizing segments that we believe will become substantial markets."
