Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Surge in Heart Device Demand

Medtronic projects higher 2027 revenues, driven by robust heart device demand and strategic investments.
Medtronic has adjusted its fiscal 2027 forecasts upward, anticipating increased revenues and profits due to heightened demand for its heart devices, which play a critical role in complex cardiovascular procedures. The company announced these updates on Tuesday, highlighting the positive impact of new technologies and steady surgery demand on its performance.
Strategic Investments and Market Expansion
Medtronic has committed to investing $80 million in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device manufacturer, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. This move is part of Medtronic's broader strategy to strengthen its position in the cardiovascular segment. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device outside the U.S., further expanding its market reach.
Financial Outlook and Performance
Medtronic has revised the lower end of its adjusted per-share profit forecast for fiscal 2027 to $5.94, up from $5.90, maintaining the upper limit at $6. The company now anticipates annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previous projection of 6.75% to 7.25%. CFO Thierry Pieton noted that recent tariff refunds have nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter, though future refunds are not factored into current projections.
Cardiovascular Segment Drives Growth
The cardiovascular segment has been a significant contributor to Medtronic's growth, with quarterly sales soaring 19.5% to $3.93 billion. This surge is largely attributed to the pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% increase in demand. The company reported an adjusted quarterly per-share profit of $1.45 on revenues of $9.76 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, according to LSEG data.
CEO Geoff Martha expressed confidence in the company's growth trajectory, citing the broad performance across its businesses and the emerging contributions from new growth platforms. He emphasized that Medtronic's strategic focus is on high-growth segments with substantial patient pools, ensuring long-term expansion and innovation.
