Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Strong Heart Device Demand

Medtronic increases fiscal 2027 revenue outlook, citing robust demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 financial projections upwards, driven by heightened demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The company now anticipates annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previous forecast of 6.75% to 7.25%.
Strategic Investments in Cardiovascular and Robotic Surgery
The medical technology giant announced a strategic $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device manufacturer, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing rights to distribute a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States. CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the complementary nature of Cornerstone's Sentire device to Medtronic's existing Hugo device, noting the low penetration of robotic surgery in emerging markets.
Quarterly Performance and Profit Forecast
In its latest earnings report, Medtronic reported an adjusted quarterly per-share profit of $1.45, surpassing the expected $1.39, on revenues of $9.76 billion, exceeding forecasts of $9.55 billion. The cardiovascular segment saw a 19.5% increase in sales, totaling $3.93 billion, largely attributed to an 88% growth in its pulsed field ablation portfolio used for treating irregular heart rhythms. The company has also adjusted the lower end of its fiscal 2027 adjusted per-share profit forecast to $5.94, up from $5.90, maintaining the upper limit at $6.
Financial Adjustments and Future Outlook
Medtronic's Chief Financial Officer, Thierry Pieton, noted that the company received tariff refunds that nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter, although future refunds have not been factored into the revised outlook. CEO Martha emphasized the company's focus on high-growth segments within the medtech industry, targeting large patient pools and significant market opportunities.
