Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Strong Heart Device Demand

Medtronic increases 2027 revenue and profit forecasts, driven by heart device demand and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 forecasts upward, citing robust demand for its heart devices utilized in complex cardiovascular procedures. The company now anticipates organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previously projected range of 6.75% to 7.25%. Additionally, the lower end of its adjusted per-share profit forecast has been raised from $5.90 to $5.94, while the upper limit remains at $6.
Strategic Investments in Cardiac Technology
In a bid to bolster its cardiac technology portfolio, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device manufacturer, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Furthermore, Medtronic invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the United States.
CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the strategic focus on high-growth segments within the medtech industry, emphasizing the significance of large patient pools and substantial market segments. He remarked on the promising expansion of soft tissue robotic surgery in emerging markets, where penetration remains under 1%.
Strong Performance in Cardiovascular Segment
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely driven by its pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% surge in demand. The company's financial results for the quarter exceeded expectations, with an adjusted quarterly per-share profit of $1.45 on revenue totaling $9.76 billion, surpassing analysts' estimates of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales.
Chief Financial Officer Thierry Pieton noted that the company received tariff refunds that nearly covered the duties paid during the quarter, though future refunds have not been factored into the outlook.
Medtronic's strategic initiatives and financial performance underscore its commitment to expanding its presence in the medtech sector, particularly in the cardiovascular domain. As demand for innovative heart devices continues to rise, the company's investments and revised forecasts signal confidence in sustained growth.
