Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Strong Heart Device Demand

Medtronic boosts its fiscal 2027 outlook, fueled by increased demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has elevated its fiscal 2027 revenue and profit forecasts, citing robust demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The medical technology firm announced on Tuesday that it now expects annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from the previously projected range of 6.75% to 7.25%.
CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the broad performance across Medtronic's businesses and the growing contributions from new growth platforms as key factors for the optimistic outlook. The company raised the lower end of its adjusted per-share profit forecast for fiscal 2027 to $5.94, up from $5.90, while keeping the upper end steady at $6.
Strategic Investments in Heart Technology
In addition to the revised forecasts, Medtronic revealed plans to invest $80 million in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. The firm also committed $700 million to Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the U.S.
Martha emphasized the potential of Cornerstone's Sentire device, noting its complementary role to Medtronic's existing Hugo device, particularly in markets where robotic surgery is still emerging.
Strong Performance in Cardiovascular Segment
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was significantly driven by the company's pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an impressive 88% growth. These devices are utilized in treating irregular heart rhythms, underscoring their importance in Medtronic's portfolio.
For the recent quarter, Medtronic reported an adjusted per-share profit of $1.45 on revenues of $9.76 billion, surpassing analysts' expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Future Prospects and Market Dynamics
Medtronic's strategic focus on high-growth segments within the medtech industry appears to be paying off. Martha pointed out that the company is prioritizing areas with large patient pools and significant growth potential. He also mentioned that Medtronic received tariff refunds that nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter, though future refunds have not been factored into the company's outlook.
The company is positioning itself to capitalize on the increasing adoption of advanced medical technologies and the growing demand for surgical procedures worldwide.
