Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Rising Heart Device Demand

Medtronic lifts its 2027 revenue forecast, driven by increased demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has revised its fiscal 2027 financial outlook, anticipating stronger revenue growth fueled by heightened demand for its cardiovascular devices. The company now projects annual organic revenue growth between 7.25% and 7.75%, an increase from its prior forecast of 6.75% to 7.25%.
Strategic Investments and Market Expansion
In a strategic move to enhance its portfolio, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device maker, with an option to acquire the company for $210 million. Additionally, the company invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in certain markets outside the U.S.
CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the company's focus on expanding in high-growth segments of the medtech industry. He noted the potential for significant market penetration in emerging markets, particularly with soft tissue robotic surgeries, which currently have a penetration rate of less than 1%.
Financial Performance and Growth Drivers
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely driven by an 88% rise in the sales of its pulsed field ablation portfolio, used to treat irregular heart rhythms.
For the quarter, Medtronic posted an adjusted per-share profit of $1.45 on revenues of $9.76 billion, surpassing analysts' expectations of $1.39 per share and $9.55 billion in sales, according to LSEG data.
Despite receiving tariff refunds that nearly offset its paid duties, Medtronic's Chief Financial Officer, Thierry Pieton, stated that future refunds have not been factored into the company's outlook.
Outlook and Future Plans
Medtronic's updated forecast reflects confidence in its diversified business performance and the growing contribution from new growth platforms. Martha emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to mergers and acquisitions in sectors with large patient pools and significant growth potential.
As Medtronic continues to prioritize innovation and strategic investments, the company positions itself to capitalize on the increasing adoption of advanced medical technologies in the global market.
