Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Rising Heart Device Demand

Medtronic boosts fiscal 2027 revenue and profit forecasts, driven by strong demand for heart devices.
Medtronic has elevated its financial expectations for fiscal 2027, citing robust demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. This move reflects the company's confidence in its growing medtech portfolio.
Increased Financial Projections
On Tuesday, Medtronic adjusted its fiscal 2027 revenue growth forecast to a range of 7.25% to 7.75%, up from the previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%. The company also raised the lower end of its adjusted per share profit forecast to $5.94 from $5.90, while maintaining the upper limit at $6.
CEO Geoff Martha emphasized the broad performance across the company's businesses and the contributions from new growth platforms as key factors for the optimistic outlook. The company indicated that these forecasts do not account for potential future tariff refunds, despite receiving refunds that nearly offset the duties paid during the quarter.
Strategic Investments in Cardiac Technology
In a strategic move, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a company specializing in heart-valve repair devices, with an option to acquire the firm for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in markets outside the United States. Martha noted the low penetration of soft tissue robotic surgery in emerging markets, highlighting the complementary nature of Cornerstone's Sentire device to Medtronic's Hugo system.
Cardiovascular Segment Performance
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a remarkable 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was significantly driven by the company's pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% surge. Overall, Medtronic's quarterly revenue hit $9.76 billion, surpassing analyst expectations of $9.55 billion, while adjusted quarterly earnings per share were $1.45, beating estimates of $1.39.
The company's strategic focus on high-growth segments with large patient pools underpins its confidence in sustained business expansion. As Medtronic continues to navigate the evolving medtech landscape, these investments and financial projections position the company for a promising future.
