Medtronic Raises 2027 Forecasts Amid Heart Device Surge

Medtronic ups 2027 revenue forecasts, buoyed by robust demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has increased its fiscal 2027 revenue growth projections, attributing the rise to strong demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The company now anticipates annual organic revenue growth ranging from 7.25% to 7.75%, compared to its previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%. This adjustment also includes a slight increase in the lower end of its adjusted per-share profit forecast, now set at $5.94, while maintaining the upper limit at $6.
Strategic Investments and Market Expansion
The company unveiled significant investments to bolster its position in the medical device sector. Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a heart-valve repair device manufacturer, with an option to purchase the company for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing rights to distribute a robotic surgical device in select markets outside the U.S. CEO Geoff Martha highlighted the potential of these investments, emphasizing the complementary nature of Cornerstone's Sentire device to Medtronic's existing Hugo system.
Performance and Financial Insights
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was driven by the company's pulsed field ablation portfolio, which experienced an 88% surge. The company posted an adjusted quarterly profit of $1.45 per share on $9.76 billion in revenue, surpassing analyst expectations of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales, as compiled by LSEG data.
Finance Chief Thierry Pieton noted that the company had received tariff refunds nearly covering the duties paid during the quarter. However, these refunds have not been factored into future projections. Medtronic's strategic focus remains on high-growth segments within the medtech industry, targeting areas with large patient pools and significant market potential.
