Medtronic Projects Strong 2027 Growth Amid Heart Device Surge

Medtronic raises its 2027 forecasts, driven by demand for heart devices and strategic investments.
Medtronic has increased its fiscal 2027 forecasts, citing a surge in demand for its heart devices used in complex cardiovascular procedures. The medical technology giant has revised its annual organic revenue growth prediction to a range of 7.25% to 7.75%, up from the previous estimate of 6.75% to 7.25%. This adjustment comes as the company experiences robust performance across its various business segments.
Investment in Heart and Robotics Technology
In a strategic move to bolster its portfolio, Medtronic announced an $80 million investment in Pi-Cardia, a company specializing in heart-valve repair devices. The deal includes an option to acquire Pi-Cardia for $210 million. Additionally, Medtronic has invested $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics, securing distribution rights for a robotic surgical device in select international markets. CEO Geoff Martha emphasized the potential of Cornerstone's Sentire robotic system, which complements Medtronic's existing Hugo device, particularly in emerging markets where robotic surgery is still underpenetrated.
Financial Performance and Market Confidence
Medtronic's fiscal 2027 adjusted per-share profit forecast has been raised to a lower limit of $5.94, up slightly from $5.90, while the upper limit remains at $6. The company's financial chief, Thierry Pieton, highlighted that recent tariff refunds have nearly offset duties incurred during the quarter, though these are not factored into future projections. This financial outlook reflects Medtronic's confidence in its diversified business strategy and the growing demand for medical technologies.
Cardiovascular Segment Drives Growth
Medtronic's cardiovascular segment reported a 19.5% increase in quarterly sales, reaching $3.93 billion. This growth was largely driven by its pulsed field ablation portfolio, which saw an impressive 88% rise. These devices are essential in treating irregular heart rhythms, a growing area of focus within cardiovascular care. The company's overall quarterly performance exceeded expectations, with an adjusted per-share profit of $1.45 on revenues of $9.76 billion, surpassing analysts' estimates of $1.39 per share on $9.55 billion in sales.
Medtronic's proactive approach in expanding its product offerings and investing in high-growth areas underscores its commitment to staying at the forefront of medical technology innovation. As the demand for advanced cardiovascular solutions continues to rise, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on these opportunities.
