Marengo Asia Secures ₹400 Crore to Expand Hospital Capacity

Marengo Asia Hospitals raises ₹400 crore from LeapFrog Investments to double its bed capacity across India.
Marengo Asia Hospitals has successfully secured ₹400 crore in funding from LeapFrog Investments, marking a significant step in its plan to expand its hospital network in India. The funding will be directed towards doubling the hospital's bed capacity from the current 2,000 to over 4,000 beds within the next two years, according to Abhishek Kabra, managing director at Samara Capital and chairman of Marengo Asia Hospitals.
Strategic Expansion Plans
Currently, Marengo operates five hospitals across key regions in India, including the National Capital Region, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. Additionally, the hospital group has a strategic partnership in Saudi Arabia. The financial boost from LeapFrog Investments will enable Marengo to enhance its service offerings and extend its reach within the Indian healthcare sector.
Marengo Asia Hospitals, which reports revenues ranging between ₹1,000-1,200 crore, is backed by Samara Capital along with the family offices of Godrej and Havells. This investment aligns with LeapFrog's commitment to building robust healthcare platforms across Asia and Africa, as stated by Biju Mohandas, partner and global healthcare lead at LeapFrog Investments.
Founder's Vision and Future Prospects
The hospital group was founded by Raajiv Singhal, a former Indian Army surgeon with extensive experience in the private healthcare sector, having held senior roles at Fortis Hospitals, Care Hospitals, and Sakra Hospital. This latest round of funding follows earlier reports indicating Marengo's efforts to raise ₹500 crore by selling a 10% stake, valuing the company at approximately ₹5,000 crore. The stake sale was intended to precede a potential initial public offering (IPO).
The infusion of capital is expected to not only increase the bed capacity but also improve the overall infrastructure and quality of care provided by Marengo Asia Hospitals, further solidifying its position in the competitive Indian healthcare market.
