Manipal Hospitals Eyes Expansion with AI-Driven Model in Key Indian States

Manipal Health Enterprises Ltd is setting the stage for a major expansion across India, focusing on acquiring healthcare facilities in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and the Delhi-NCR region. The company is committed to integrating a 'physical plus digital' healthcare model powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to its latest annual report.
Strategic Acquisitions and New Projects
The healthcare giant is actively pursuing acquisition opportunities in Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh to strengthen its market presence. Additionally, it plans to expand in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, and Eastern India, including West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Sikkim. A significant part of this strategy includes a greenfield project in Juhu, Mumbai. Manipal Hospitals has recently secured land and building acquisitions for this project, valued at Rs 495 crore, with Rs 130 crore contingent upon certain conditions.
AI-Driven Healthcare Innovations
Manipal Hospitals is not only focusing on physical expansion but also enhancing its technological capabilities. The company is scaling up its unified Hospital Information System (HIS) to streamline clinical, diagnostic, and administrative processes. AI innovations include nursing handovers at 24 hospitals and wireless patient monitoring systems. The group is also advancing call center operations with AI-driven chat and voice assistants to handle patient inquiries and appointments efficiently.
Focus on Specialty Care and Financial Growth
The company's clinical strategy revolves around six complex specialties: cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, gastro sciences, orthopedics, and renal sciences. These areas contributed 64.3% of the gross inpatient revenue in the 2025-26 fiscal year. To support these specialties, Manipal Hospitals is investing in advanced medical infrastructure like robotic surgical systems and PET-CT scanners.
Financially, the company recorded a 25.4% increase in revenue from operations, totaling Rs 10,336 crore, with an EBITDA of Rs 2,644 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year. This growth is attributed to successful integrations with Sahyadri Hospitals in Maharashtra and Medica Synergie in Eastern India.
Future Expansion Plans
Looking ahead, Manipal Hospitals aims to add approximately 2,426 licensed beds by 2030, comprising both brownfield and greenfield projects. As of March 2026, the network included 49 hospitals and 13,037 licensed beds across 14 states and Union Territories, serving over 76 lakh patients during the past year. The company added over 5,500 beds between 2020-21 and 2025-26, making it a leading consolidator among private hospital chains in India.
Manipal Hospitals' Managing Director and CEO, Dilip Jose, emphasized that the next phase will be characterized by leveraging the company's clinical expertise, technology platforms, and integrated network to maintain its reputation as a trusted healthcare provider.
