The platform's review, titled “Transforming cancer care in emerging economies: India’s AI innovation,” was authored by Dr. Ashok Sharma and his colleagues. It explores how iOncology.ai could significantly improve cancer screening, early diagnosis, and access to specialized care in emerging economies. Dr. Sharma emphasized the potential of locally developed innovations like iOncology.ai to bridge disparities in cancer care across the Global South.

According to the review, BRICS nations, home to over 40% of the world's population, face approximately 9 million new cancer cases and 4.66 million deaths annually. These statistics underscore the urgent need for enhanced cancer care solutions. The review also highlights the disparities in cancer patterns and the availability of screening and specialist care within these countries.

Current Status and Future Prospects

While iOncology.ai is undergoing pilot-stage clinical validation and implementation evaluation, it has not yet been clinically validated. The platform is currently in research mode, lacking peer-reviewed evidence to establish its diagnostic accuracy and clinical utility. Prospective multicentre validation will be required before it can be widely implemented in clinical settings.

The platform's inclusion in India's expanding digital health infrastructure, including initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, reflects its potential to support comprehensive cancer control efforts.
