Infosys Secures Seven-Year AI Deal with IHH Healthcare
Infosys to implement AI-enhanced ERP system for IHH Healthcare, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Infosys, a leading technology services company, has entered a significant seven-year partnership with IHH Healthcare, the parent company of Fortis Healthcare, to develop and implement an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform. This initiative is expected to streamline operations and reduce costs for the global healthcare giant, which operates nearly 190 facilities, including 89 hospitals, across 10 countries.
Infosys' Strategic Win
The Bengaluru-based IT company secured the deal after a comprehensive year-long selection process. Infosys was tasked not only with providing competitive pricing but also with demonstrating how AI could enhance the standard Oracle-based ERP system. This strategic partnership is set to consolidate IHH's purchasing processes, potentially leading to significant cost savings.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency
According to Dilip Kadambi, Group Chief Financial Officer of IHH Healthcare, the new ERP platform will enable the company to leverage its scale more effectively. "We looked at it and said, how do we leverage synergies? How do we leverage scale in providing healthcare?" Kadambi remarked. The platform aims to unify disparate IT systems, which have previously hindered IHH's ability to scale effectively.
Potential for Cost Savings
Even before the implementation of a unified data system, IHH managed to save $150 million by negotiating global contracts for capital equipment purchases, such as MRI machines. The new AI-driven ERP system is expected to facilitate similar savings across the supply chain. Linus Tham, Chief Information Officer at IHH Healthcare, highlighted the potential for consolidation, stating, "Imagine, if I am able to dig down into the granularity of gloves and surgical textiles – if I can know that an apple here is an apple there – imagine the amount of consolidation that I can drive."
Future Prospects
The development of this ERP platform marks the first step in a broader strategy that could lead to IHH Healthcare outsourcing its finance and accounting functions. Kadambi suggested that the platform could pave the way for establishing a global business service (GBS) model. "The larger idea is to kind of set up a GBS," he noted. This transition could allow IHH to focus on its core competencies while outsourcing specialized processes to experts.
Infosys' Role and Impact
Infosys' involvement in this project underscores its capabilities in deploying advanced IT solutions in the healthcare sector. Although the company has not disclosed the deal's financial details, industry experts estimate it could be worth several hundred million dollars, contingent on the project's scope and duration.
