iOncology.ai is designed to assist in early cancer detection, risk stratification, treatment planning, and patient data management. The platform is currently in its pilot phase, undergoing clinical validation to assess its efficacy in real-world settings. The developers, supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, envision it as a tool to address disparities in cancer care, particularly in resource-limited settings.

The importance of this innovation is underscored by the fact that BRICS countries represent over 40% of the global population, with significant cancer incidence and mortality rates. The journal review, authored by Dr. Ashok Sharma and colleagues, emphasizes the potential of AI technologies like iOncology.ai to improve cancer screening and access to specialist care in these regions.
Dr. Sharma highlighted the opportunity for India to demonstrate how locally developed innovations can bridge cancer care gaps across the Global South.
