Dr. Ashok Sharma emphasized the importance of this development at the BRICS collaboration, noting that the platform could play a crucial role in addressing cancer care disparities across the Global South. BRICS countries, accounting for over 40% of the world's population, face significant cancer-related challenges, with approximately 9 million new cases and 4.66 million deaths annually. The review highlights disparities in cancer incidence and access to care, underscoring the platform's potential impact.

Current Status and Future Prospects

iOncology.ai is currently in the pilot stage of clinical validation, undergoing performance assessments to determine its applicability in clinical settings. Despite its promising prospects, the platform is yet to achieve clinical validation, with no peer-reviewed studies confirming its diagnostic accuracy or clinical utility.

The developers plan to expand its capabilities by incorporating genetic data and integrating with electronic health record systems. Prospective multicenter validation is essential before it can be adopted for widespread clinical use.

The platform's development aligns with India's broader cancer control and digital health initiatives, such as population screening and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery through technological advancements.
