Indian AI Platform for Cancer Care Gains Spotlight at BRICS Summit

An innovative AI platform designed to enhance cancer care in India has been highlighted at the recent BRICS Summit. The platform, known as iOncology.ai, has been developed collaboratively by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, with backing from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This groundbreaking technology was featured in a special edition of the BRICS Health Journal, underscoring its potential impact on cancer treatment and management.

The review titled “Transforming cancer care in emerging economies: India’s AI innovation” explores how AI can enhance cancer screening and improve access to specialist care. The review notes that BRICS countries, which host over 40% of the global population, face significant challenges in cancer care, with approximately 9 million new cases and 4.66 million deaths annually. The disparities in cancer patterns and access to care highlight the urgent need for innovative solutions like iOncology.ai.

Integration with India's Health Infrastructure

iOncology.ai is part of a broader effort to integrate digital health solutions into India’s cancer control strategy. The platform leverages curated clinical, radiological, and histopathological datasets, with plans to incorporate genetic data and electronic health records.
