Authored by Dr. Ashok Sharma and his team at AIIMS and C-DAC, the review emphasizes the importance of such innovations in addressing cancer-care disparities, particularly in countries within the Global South.

BRICS Collaboration and Future Prospects

During discussions at the BRICS Summit, Dr. Sharma highlighted the potential of iOncology.ai to contribute significantly to cancer prevention and treatment in resource-limited settings. He emphasized the importance of evidence-based, interoperable solutions tailored to the needs of emerging economies.

The BRICS countries, which collectively account for over 40% of the global population, face significant challenges in cancer care, with approximately 9 million new cancer cases and 4.66 million deaths annually. The review underscores the disparities in cancer patterns and access to care across these nations.

Current Status and Path to Clinical Validation

Currently, iOncology.ai is in the pilot stage of clinical validation and implementation evaluation. It is being tested to determine its performance and potential for clinical application. The platform utilizes curated Indian clinical, radiological, and histopathological datasets, with future plans to include genetic data and integrate with electronic health record systems.

Despite its promising design, iOncology.ai is yet to undergo comprehensive clinical validation. It remains in research mode, and further multicenter validation is necessary to establish its diagnostic accuracy and clinical utility before it can be deployed widely in clinical settings.
