Indian AI Cancer Care Platform Shines at BRICS Health Summit

iOncology.ai, an AI-driven cancer care platform, gains global attention at the BRICS Summit, showcasing India's innovation in healthcare.
An Indian-developed artificial intelligence platform, iOncology.ai, is gaining international attention after being featured in a special issue of the BRICS Health Journal. The journal issue was unveiled during the BRICS Summit, held from September 12-13, 2026. Developed collaboratively by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, the platform is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Addressing Cancer Care Challenges
iOncology.ai aims to revolutionize cancer care by integrating clinical data to assist in early detection, risk stratification, treatment planning, and comprehensive patient-data management. The platform is currently undergoing pilot-stage clinical validation and implementation evaluation to thoroughly assess its performance and potential in clinical settings.
A review titled “Transforming cancer care in emerging economies: India’s AI innovation” by Ashok Sharma and his team from AIIMS and C-DAC highlights the potential of AI in enhancing cancer screening, early diagnosis, and specialist care accessibility. Sharma emphasized the importance of BRICS collaboration in strengthening cancer prevention and treatment through evidence-based solutions tailored for emerging economies.
Global Health Impact
BRICS nations, which account for over 40% of the global population, face significant cancer challenges, with approximately nine million new cases and 4.66 million deaths annually. The review notes disparities in cancer patterns and access to necessary care, positioning iOncology.ai as a key component of India’s growing cancer-control infrastructure, which includes population screening and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
The platform leverages curated Indian datasets, including clinical, radiological, and histopathological information, with plans to integrate genetic data and collaborate with electronic health record systems. However, the platform has yet to be clinically validated, and its diagnostic accuracy and clinical utility remain to be proven through prospective multicentre validation.

Dr. Ashok Sharma expressed optimism about the role of iOncology.ai in bridging cancer-care disparities, particularly in resource-constrained settings. He highlighted the platform's potential to empower clinicians and facilitate smarter, more equitable cancer care. The initiative reflects India’s commitment to leveraging technology for healthcare advancements and its potential impact on global health.
