## Narrowing Down Rapid Test Developers
The global initiative to produce a rapid diagnostic test for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus has progressed significantly, with five manufacturers identified for potential field trials in Eastern Congo. This development is crucial as the region grapples with an Ebola outbreak that has resulted in over 400 fatalities across three provinces.

## Current Testing Challenges
The ongoing outbreak, declared on May 15, has infected 1,406 individuals and claimed 438 lives in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. Health officials are also monitoring potential exposures in two additional provinces. The current testing infrastructure is limited, with only ten laboratories equipped to test for the Bundibugyo virus using three different testing methods. However, logistical challenges such as insufficient infrastructure, unreliable power sources, and security concerns impede timely test results.
