Docon Technologies Sells 9.9% Stake in Thyrocare for Rs 986 Crore

Docon Technologies reduces its stake in Thyrocare Technologies, netting Rs 986 crore through block and bulk deals.
Docon Technologies, a significant promoter of Thyrocare Technologies Ltd, has divested a 9.9% stake in the company, generating Rs 986 crore through a series of bulk and block deals. The transactions, which took place on Thursday, involved the sale of 1,57,69,696 equity shares across the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Major Institutional Participation
The stake sale attracted interest from a variety of institutional investors, insurance firms, and global investment entities. Notable buyers included HSBC Mutual Fund, DSP Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, WhiteOak Capital Mutual Fund, and ITI Mutual Fund. Additionally, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company and Tata AIA Life Insurance participated in the transactions. Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets, HBM Healthcare Investments (Cayman), and the Kuwait Investment Authority also acquired shares through block deals on the NSE.
Impact on Shareholding and Market Reaction
Following the sale, Docon Technologies' holding in Thyrocare Technologies decreased from 60.92% to 51.02%. The shares were sold at prices ranging from Rs 624 to Rs 631.71 per share. This transaction comes after Docon's previous divestment of a 10% stake in Thyrocare for Rs 667 crore in October of the previous year.
In response to the transaction, Thyrocare Technologies' stock experienced a modest increase. On Friday, shares rose nearly 3% to Rs 621.95 on the NSE and over 2% to Rs 622 on the BSE.
Strategic Moves in the Diagnostics Sector
The sale of shares by Docon Technologies is part of a broader trend of strategic realignments within the diagnostics sector. The participation of prominent mutual funds and global investors underscores the attractiveness of India's healthcare market, particularly in diagnostics, which continues to see robust growth and investment interest.
The details of additional buyers in the bulk deals remain undisclosed. However, the significant involvement of institutional investors highlights confidence in Thyrocare's market position and growth potential.
