Docon Technologies Sells 9.9% Stake in Thyrocare for Rs 986 Crore

In a significant move within the diagnostics industry, Docon Technologies, a promoter of Thyrocare Technologies Ltd, has divested 9.9% of its stake in the company, generating Rs 986 crore. The transaction was executed through multiple bulk and block deals across both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Thursday.
Details of the Stake Sale
A total of 1,57,69,696 equity shares were offloaded, with more than 1.31 crore shares sold via block deals and an additional 10 lakh shares through bulk deals on the NSE. The BSE saw 16.01 lakh shares change hands through a bulk deal. The shares were traded at prices ranging from Rs 624 to Rs 631.71 each, culminating in a total transaction value of Rs 985.86 crore.
This sale reduces Docon Technologies' ownership in Thyrocare from 60.92% to 51.02%. The transaction attracted a range of institutional investors, including HSBC Mutual Fund, DSP Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, WhiteOak Capital Mutual Fund, and ITI Mutual Fund. Additionally, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company and Tata AIA Life Insurance participated, alongside global entities such as Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets, HBM Healthcare Investments (Cayman), and the Kuwait Investment Authority.
Market Reaction and Historical Context
Following the announcement of the stake sale, Thyrocare Technologies' shares experienced a positive response in the market. On Friday, the company's stock rose nearly 3% to Rs 621.95 on the NSE and over 2% to Rs 622 on the BSE. Details regarding other buyers involved in the bulk deals remain undisclosed on both exchanges.
This latest divestiture follows a previous transaction in October of the previous year, when Docon Technologies sold a 10% stake in Thyrocare for Rs 667 crore. The ongoing stake sales highlight Docon's strategic financial maneuvers within the diagnostics sector.
