AI Summary

Docon Technologies divests nearly 10% of Thyrocare, raising Rs 986 crore through bulk and block deals.

In a significant financial move, Docon Technologies, a key promoter of Thyrocare Technologies Ltd, has sold a 9.9% stake in the diagnostics company, securing Rs 986 crore. The sale was executed through multiple bulk and block deals on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Thursday.

Details of the Transaction

The divestment involved the offloading of 1,57,69,696 equity shares, which were sold at prices ranging from Rs 624 to Rs 631.71 per share. The majority of shares, over 1.31 crore, were sold through block deals, while 10 lakh shares were exchanged via bulk deals on the NSE. An additional 16.01 lakh shares were traded through a bulk deal on the BSE.

Following this transaction, Docon's ownership in Thyrocare has decreased from 60.92% to 51.02%. This sale marks a continuation of Docon's strategy, following a similar 10% stake sale for Rs 667 crore in October of the previous year.

Buyers and Market Impact

The stake sale attracted interest from a range of institutional investors, insurance companies, and global entities. Notable buyers included HSBC Mutual Fund, DSP Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, WhiteOak Capital Mutual Fund, and ITI Mutual Fund. Insurance firms like Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance and Tata AIA Life Insurance also participated. Additionally, global financial giants such as Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets, HBM Healthcare Investments (Cayman), and the sovereign wealth fund, Kuwait Investment Authority, acquired shares through block deals on the NSE.

In the wake of the transaction, Thyrocare Technologies' stock saw a positive response in the market. On Friday, the company's shares rose nearly 3% on the NSE to Rs 621.95, and over 2% on the BSE to Rs 622.

Strategic Implications

This move by Docon Technologies reflects a strategic shift in its investment approach towards Thyrocare, aiming to recalibrate its holdings while engaging with a diverse range of investors. The participation of prominent mutual funds and global investors underscores the confidence in Thyrocare's market position and growth potential within the diagnostics sector.

While the detailed identities of some buyers in the bulk deals remain undisclosed, the continued interest from major financial institutions indicates a robust investor appetite for shares in Thyrocare Technologies.
