Docon Technologies offloads 9.9% stake in Thyrocare for Rs 986 crore, attracting major institutional investors.
In a significant financial move, Docon Technologies, a key promoter of Thyrocare Technologies Ltd, has divested a 9.9% stake in the diagnostics company for Rs 986 crore. This transaction, executed through multiple bulk and block deals, took place on Thursday across the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Details of the Transaction
The sale involved a total of 1,57,69,696 equity shares, with more than 1.31 crore shares sold via block deals and an additional 26.01 lakh shares through bulk deals. The shares were traded within a price range of Rs 624 to Rs 631.71 each, culminating in a total transaction value of Rs 985.86 crore.
As a result of this sale, Docon's ownership in Thyrocare has decreased from 60.92% to 51.02%. The transaction attracted a variety of institutional investors, including notable names such as HSBC Mutual Fund, DSP Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, and Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund. Additionally, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company and Tata AIA Life Insurance were among the insurance firms that acquired shares. Global investors like Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets, HBM Healthcare Investments, and Kuwait Investment Authority also participated through block deals on the NSE.
Market Reaction and Historical Context
Following the stake sale, Thyrocare Technologies' shares experienced an uptick, with prices rising nearly 3% to Rs 621.95 on the NSE and over 2% to Rs 622 on the BSE. This latest divestment comes after Docon's previous sale of a 10% stake in Thyrocare for Rs 667 crore in October of the previous year.
The strategic move by Docon is indicative of a broader trend in the market where promoters and major shareholders are leveraging their holdings to attract a diversified portfolio of investors. The participation of both domestic and international investors highlights the robust interest in India's growing diagnostics sector, particularly in companies like Thyrocare that have a strong market presence.
While the exact identities of some buyers in the bulk deals remain undisclosed, the overall participation underscores confidence in Thyrocare's business model and future prospects. The diagnostics chain continues to be a significant player in the healthcare industry, offering a range of services that are increasingly in demand.
