Docon Technologies divests nearly 10% of Thyrocare, attracting major institutional investors.
In a significant financial move, Docon Technologies, a promoter of Thyrocare Technologies Ltd, has sold a 9.9% stake in the diagnostic chain, generating Rs 986 crore. The transaction, completed through various bulk and block deals, saw the sale of 1,57,69,696 equity shares across the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Thursday.

Docon offloaded more than 1.31 crore shares via block deals, while 10 lakh shares were exchanged through bulk deals on the NSE. An additional 16.01 lakh shares were sold through a bulk deal on the BSE. Impact on Ownership and Market Reaction
Following this sale, Docon's ownership in Thyrocare dropped from 60.92% to 51.02%. The stake sale drew interest from a variety of institutional and global investors, including HSBC Mutual Fund, DSP Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, WhiteOak Capital Mutual Fund, and ITI Mutual Fund. Insurance companies such as Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance and Tata AIA Life Insurance, along with Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets, HBM Healthcare Investments (Cayman), and the Kuwait Investment Authority, also participated in the deal.
Thyrocare Technologies' shares reacted positively to the news, with an increase of nearly 3% on the NSE to Rs 621.95 and over 2% on the BSE to Rs 622.
Previous Stake Sale and Market Trends
This recent transaction follows Docon's previous sale of a 10% stake in Thyrocare for Rs 667 crore in October of the previous year. The consistent reduction in Docon's stake highlights a trend of strategic divestment by the promoter, possibly aimed at capitalizing on the current market conditions and investor interest in the healthcare diagnostics sector.
The sale underscores a growing trend of institutional investors increasing their footprint in the healthcare sector, reflecting confidence in the long-term prospects of diagnostic services amidst a backdrop of rising health awareness and demand for medical testing services.
