Himachal Pradesh strengthens healthcare with a new 200-bed facility at Chamba Medical College, inaugurated by CM Sukhu.
In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a new 200-bedded hospital building at Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital in Chamba on Sunday. The facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 158 crore, aims to enhance healthcare services and medical education in the region.
Comprehensive Facilities for Patient Care
The newly inaugurated hospital, known as Chamba Medical College, comprises three blocks—A, B, and C—designed to offer a wide range of healthcare services and educational opportunities. The hospital will provide Outpatient Department (OPD) services across eight major specialties, including medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, chest and tuberculosis (TB), surgery, ENT, obstetrics and gynecology, and dental care. It also features a well-equipped casualty, radiology, and operation theatre (OT) complex.
"Strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to quality medical services closer to people's homes remains a top priority of the State Government," stated CM Sukhu during the inauguration. He emphasized that the new facility would significantly enhance patient care while offering improved working and learning environments for doctors, nursing staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
Immediate Service Commencement
Services in the Departments of Psychiatry, Gynaecology, and Dermatology began immediately following the inauguration. The hospital's 200 indoor beds are set to provide advanced healthcare services, addressing the region's growing medical needs.
The Chief Minister highlighted that adequate hostel and residential facilities have been established to create a conducive environment for students, faculty, and healthcare personnel. This development is expected to ensure the efficient functioning of the institution, bolstering both education and healthcare delivery in Chamba.
State Government's Commitment
CM Sukhu reiterated the state government's commitment to expanding healthcare access, emphasizing that the new hospital stands as a testament to their ongoing efforts. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in improving healthcare outcomes and providing high-quality medical education, thereby benefiting the entire community.
This development marks a significant step forward for Chamba, as the new hospital aims to bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility and quality. With this inauguration, the state government continues its mission to bring top-tier medical services closer to the residents of Himachal Pradesh.
